Shivapuri day hiking trip is one of most popular day hiking routes. The trail takes us up from Shivapuri National Park to Nagi Gompa, a hilltop Buddhist monastery where panoramic views of the Kathmandu valley abound. Finish with a stop at a local bazaar in Sundarijal before heading back to Kathmandu.
Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is the ninth national park in Nepal and was established in 2002. It is located in the country's mid-hills on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu Valley and named after Shivapuri Peak of 2,732 m (8,963 ft) altitude. It covers an area of 159 km2 (61 sq mi) in the districts of Kathmandu, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk, adjoining 23 Village Development Committees. In the west, the protected area extends to the Dhading District.
Your expert Sherpa guide will meet you at your desired starting point, usually your city center hotel lobby, at your preferred time—typically 7:30 AM after breakfast. From there, you will drive to Muhan Pokhari Budhanilkantha, where your day hike commences.
07:30 AM - Hotel Pickup, Drive to Budhanilkantha (8 kms, 25 minutes):
After breakfast, our guide will pick you up from your hotel. A 25-minute drive takes you to Budhanilkantha, a holy site housing the sleeping Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation. Marvel at the magnificently carved stone idol of Vishnu from the outer periphery of the pond (please note that non-Hindus are not allowed inside). Capture the intriguing story of this revered religious figure as your guide shares insights. Have your camera ready to capture this spiritual experience.
Upon reaching the main entrance gate of Shivapuri National Park, our guide will procure the entrance tickets. The hike commences gradually through the forest, and after approximately 2 hours of pleasant trekking, you will arrive at the hidden Buddhist monastery, Nagi Gompa. Take a short break at Nagi Gompa before continuing the hike.
From Nagai Gompa, our hike continues through the beautiful forest towards Sundarijal. The trek to Sundarijal lasts approximately 3 hours, allowing for a tea break and lunch break along the way. Light snacks will be provided to keep you energized for the journey. Enchanting streams, waterfalls, and picturesque villages will grace your path.
Upon reaching Sundarijal, a private car will be ready to transport you back to your hotel. Our driver will be waiting at Sundarijal Market for your convenient return. The drive back to the city center of Kathmandu takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic conditions.
